The Interior Ministry requested Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to travel to Lahore by air for security considerations.Interior Secretary Syed Kamal Shah conveyed the message to the Supreme Court through a letter, saying Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s visit to Lahore by road was not advisable in view of the “hazardous security environment.”

In the letter written to Supreme Court Registrar Muhammad Ali, the secretary said, “There are credible reports indicating imminent terrorist attacks through suicide bombers, or explosive laden vehicles, dispatched to various parts of the country to target very important persons and also resort to mass killings.”The secretary said that the reports indicate that highly placed government or public functionaries are the likely targets of the terrorists.
