World's Longest Hot Dog

December 31, 2007 |19:05 | Arts  By : Kaneta Babar

Art is not only being able to do something to yourself, but also being able to create such a thing that no one has been able to make up till now it can involve something to do or something to eat. And the world’s largest hot dog was made in 2006. So it is not only a world record but also an idea to follow in order to break the current record. Creating a long hot dog is not much of a feat, as evidenced by the 1,996 foot hot dog created for the 1996 Olympics. This is because the hot dog is structurally quite sound, and remarkably flexible. In the August 2006 record breaking attempt, the hot dog was manufactured by Shizuoka Meat Producers, and wound into a large plastic barrel which was easily transported inside a delivery van. The limiting factor for breaking this type of record is the bun. The bun, in order to remain in one continuous unit, needs to be baked in its final form. For the All-Japan Bread Association, this meant the connection of the longest conveyor belt possible with the equipment available to them. The dough was assembled in half-meter sections, then pressed together to create a longer tube of dough, which was then fed through the ovens via conveyor, and carried away from the ovens by another conveyor. The key was to make sure that the already-cooked bun did not move at a faster rate than the bun behind it, as this would cause the bun to pull apart. The wiener was fed through the oven at the same time to cook it. There also needed to be space outside the oven to store the bun and wiener until the entire bun had been baked. To allow for enough room for this to happen, the ovens and prep area were set up outside the ballroom of the Akasaka Prince Hotel on the loading dock, and the bun and wiener were fed into the ballroom along the conveyor as they exited the oven. Upon completion, the bun was sliced down the middle by bakers, and spectators were asked to don rubber gloves and first lift the wiener in one piece for photos, and then insert it into the bun. After being topped with mustard and ketchup, the completed hot dog was lifted by the assembled spectators 30cm off the conveyor for photos. Finally, the official measurement was completed, and the wiener was 60m in length, with the bun coming in at 60.3m in length. After photos and video of the official measurement were completed, the hot dog was cut into sections and the assembled spectators each had a piece. However, this only used about 8m of the hot dog. Presumably, the rest was used later that evening at the All-Japan Bread Association's 50th Anniversary Celebrations.

Turkish warplanes targeting Kurdish rebels bombed northern Iraq on Sunday, killing one woman and forcing hundreds to flee, local officials said. The Turkish military said it had attacked targets of the separatist Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) with the approval of U.S. occupying forces in Iraq. The United States said only that it had been informed in advance of the operation.Turkish ground forces also shelled areas where the rebels were based, an army statement said. Turkey's NTV television said 50 aircraft had taken part in the three-hour operation. The Turkish army has up to 100,000 troops near the Iraqi border, threatening a major operation that Washington fears could destabilize one of the most peaceful areas of Iraq.It was given authorization by the cabinet last month to conduct cross-border operations against the PKK, which uses northern Iraq as a base for attacks inside Turkey."In opening Iraqi airspace to this action last night America gave its approval to the action," the head of Turkey's General Staff, General Yasar Buyukanit, was quoted by the Anatolian state news agency as saying.=A U.S. embassy official said: "We have not approved any decision, it is not for us to approve. However, we were informed before the event."Pro-separatist Roj TV, quoting PKK sources, said five PKK guerrillas were killed in the overnight bombardment.

December 15, 2007 |19:46 | Showbiz  By : Kaneta Babar

Some women have got all the luck is what I can say for bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor who is listed in the highly paid actress in bollywood she sure has beauty and brains both keep up the good work Kareena! After Shahrukh and Big B, it is Kareena, who is the 3rd most popular celeb when it comes to brand endorsements; Head and Shoulders, Himani and Globus are just a few brands in her kitty. When it comes to movies, Kareena has superseded her competitors Priyanka, Rani and Preity as she has Yashraj’s ‘Tashan’, ‘Agent Vinod’ with beau Saif, ‘Kambhakt Ishq’ opposite Akshay Kumar and ‘Golmaal Returns’ with Ajay Devgan. Besides, Kareena is also doing a movie for her home banner RK Productions and plans to sign a movie with sister Karishma as well. Kareena saw a low path in her career for a year but, now the actress has bounced back with equal zest and is working 14 to 16 hours a day to deliver her best to her fans. While fans tend to focus more on Bebo’s beau Saif, the actress is sure working hard and looks like her patience is finally paying off. Now, Kareena may throw all ‘Tashan’ to give Saif the well-deserved credit but, we are sure the actor is bringing the actress all the luck, what say?

Nintendo, GameStop address Wii shortage

December 15, 2007 |17:56 | Gossips  By : Team X

The Nintendo Wii launched more than a year ago, and the system is still incredibly hard to find. This long after the system started shipping, people are still camping in front of stores as soon as they hear about new shipments.Friday morning, Nintendo of America's president and CEO, Reggie Fils-Aime, held a telephone press conference to address the continuing shortage of the Wii.Fils-Aime said Nintendo hadn't expected as much demand for the Wii as they're getting. Since the launch, he claimed, Nintendo has almost doubled its global production from 1 million to 1.8 million Wiis per month, and tripled its workforce at Nintendo of America's North Bend, Wash., distribution center. The Nintendo president wouldn't say whether Nintendo would further increase its Wii production, but he denied any claims that Nintendo is stockpiling Wiis."There was no ability for us to stockpile systems in the summer for the holiday rush," Fils-Aime said.

Will Smith Gets Lost in His Legend

December 14, 2007 |19:05 | Movies  By : Team X

Will Smith used to be able to crack a smile, and to crack up the audience with a joke, a silly song or his elastic, eloquent body English. Lately, though, the most reliable box-office magnet in Hollywood hasn't given himself or his fans much to laugh at. He was a tough, emotionally constipated cop chasing androids in I, Robot, and an ambitious man who loses his job, his home and his wife — everything but his young son — in The Pursuit of Happyness. Except for a romantic holiday in Hitch, the one-time Fresh Prince has become a stolid, solitary warrior in a gulag of gloom. An idealistic, charismatic and compassionate politician comes out of nowhere to be elected Governor ...Now, for Christmas, he has another one-man dystopia drama. It's I Am Legend, directed by Francis Lawrence, the Viennese director of music videos who made his feature debut with a good science-fiction film, Constantine, and written by Akiva Goldsman, based on Mark Protosevich's script for a 1999 I Am Legend project that was to be directed by Ridley Scott and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. As in I, Robot, Smith has seen the future — and it sucks.

Lonely holidays for Britney Spears?

December 13, 2007 |18:10 | Showbiz  By : Team X

It may be a blue Christmas for Britney Spears. The singer has been looking forward to spending Christmas morning with her sons. But those few hours of toddler time could be in jeopardy now that her ex-hubby Kevin Federline's lawyer is threatening to ask a judge to take away her visitation privileges. On Wednesday, Brit blew off a grilling that K-Fed's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, was due to give her in the couple's child custody battle. Sure, she's done that before, but this was her first court-ordered deposition.A gaggle of reporters and paparazzi gathered Wednesday at 10 a.m. outside the building where Kaplan has his firm. Spears' high-priced attorney, Sorrell Trope, did roll up in his Bentley — but without a client.A little before 11 a.m., Kaplan came outside to announce that he'd been told that Britney was ill, The News' Soo Youn reports. The silver-haired, collar-pinned lawyer said Spears' said the "illness" was "described to me as a very general condition. I don't know what the condition is."Britney's friend Sam Lutfi later told OK! magazine that "she's very sick with high anxiety."Kaplan said the deposition would be rescheduled for another day, which he didn't specify. He also said, "I may exercise my right to ask the court for relief." That could mean asking Judge Scott Gordon to scale back the little visitation time Spears has with 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James.Meanwhile, the avenging angels at the Catholic League are riled by suggestions that Spears might play the Virgin Mary in a movie called "Sweet Baby Jesus.""She is seriously miscast," fumed league president Bill Donohue. "She would be better suited to play the lead role in a flick called 'Monica' [as in Lewinsky]. If she did, the Catholic League would be delighted to send her a box of cigars!"The group got their rosaries in a twist after the movie's producer told Us Weekly Spears was looking at the script for the Nativity satire. Spears, the mag said, "likes the idea" of playing Mary, a pregnant 19-year-old in Bethlehem, Md., who finds herself without a baby daddy as she goes into labor on Christmas Eve.If it all comes to pass, Donohue says, "Let's just hope it doesn't open wide."
