Owen Wilson’s Story of Suicide:
Once upon a time, upon a lily-pad in the middle of a sparkling pond, there lived a large, green frog.
PARIS HILTON threw an exclusive party at the Social House nightclub in Las Vegas to chat up her new line of jeans, dresses, handbags and tops, and our KEVIN FRAZIER was in the middle of the VIP bash. But the heiress just couldn't contain herself when it came to talking about pal -- and mom-to-be -- NICOLE RICHIE."I'm thrilled!" Paris tells Kevin. "It's crazy. I can't believe my best friend's having a baby."As for Paris' "baby" -- her new clothing line -- she says, "It's such a dream come true."The must-have clothes will be available at Macy's and Nordstrom department stores on Thursday, Aug. 30th and Paris says "all the clothing is totally my style. People really love the line. So it's exciting."Earlier this month, Paris caused gridlock in Beverly Hills as she launched the line at her fave Beverly Hills boutique, Kitson.Helicopters hovered overhead and seven police cars lined trendy Robertson Boulevard as fans and photographers strained to get a glimpse of the celebutante, who arrived wearing a shimmery gold sequined dress from her own line.Simply called "Paris Hilton," the clothes also include shoes, T-shirts bearing her likeness, satiny bubble tops and lots of chunky sequins."I just wanted it to be totally my style using bright colors and lots of sequins," she told us at the time. She said her favorite items are the pink and white gold-foiled T-shirts branded with the slogan "Luv Thy Self."Even the same twisted seam jeans she wore during her much-publicized exit from jail on June 27th are available.
Fruity Ice Lollies with Black Currents:
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is lashing out at his American critics. VOA's Paula Wolfson reports several prominent members of the U.S. Senate have urged his removal.Prime Minister Maliki took aim at the criticism at a Baghdad news conference. He specifically mentioned Senators Hillary Clinton of New York, a candidate for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination, and Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin of Michigan. Both have called for his ouster. The prime minister said they do not understand the political situation in Iraq. He said they need to "come to their senses" and stop treating Iraq, in+is words, "as if it were one of their villages."In a series of interviews Sunday on American television, several Senators from both political parties said they also have concerns about the pace of political progress in Iraq, though some said the fault does not necessarily lie directly with Mr. MalikiSpeaking on the FOX News Sunday program, Democrat Jack Reed of Rhode Island said there is good reason to be critical of the political leadership in Iraq."I think the criticism is fair," said Jack Reed. "I think one issue though is we sometimes over-personalize this issue. The notion that if Maliki goes then everything will be fine, I think misses the point that the institutional capacity in Iraq, the ability to do simple things like make contracts, provide civil services to the people, that's not present after four years."A senior Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, former Chairman John Warner of Virginia, made headlines this past week when he urged the Bush administration to begin drawing down the number of U.S. troops in Iraq later this year. Warner told NBC's Meet the Press the current surge in American troops was designed to give the Iraqis time to make progress, but the Maliki government has not lived up to its obligations."The government under the leadership of Maliki and other Iraqi leaders has totally failed to put the other part of that partnership in place, namely, deliver greater security," said Senator Warner. But other Republicans say the comments from Senator Warner do not mean party members are ready to desert President Bush on Iraq. Appearing on ABC's This Week, Senator John Cornyn of Texas said Warner was expressing his own, personal frustration with the pace of progress in Iraq.
APDM Says It Will Not Accept Musharraf as President:
PARIS Hilton has settled a multi-million dollar lawsuit filed by a rival socialite who accused the heiress of planting defamatory stories about her in a gossip column, officials said today.Hilton, who was at the centre of a worldwide media frenzy in June after she was sent to prison for violating probation, had been sued for $US10 million ($12.4 million) by actress Zeta Graff, according to court documents.Jury selection for a civil trial was due to get underway next Monday but officials at Santa Monica County Court told AFP the case had been resolved."It's been settled," a court clerk said.No further information about the details of the settlement were revealed. It was not clear how much, if anything, Hilton had paid to settle the case. The settlement headed off a potentially embarrassing court trial for Hilton, who emerged from prison earlier this year declaring that she was determined to change her party-loving lifestyle.Graff had filed her suit in 2005, alleging Hilton was the source for a story which appeared in the gossip pages of the New York Post claiming that she had attacked her in a London nightclub. The story alleged Graff attacked Hilton in a jealous rage while the socialite was dancing with her then fiancee, Paris Latsis. Latsis reportedly dated Graff for two years. The Post report said Graff had attempted to snatch a diamond necklace from Hilton's neck before being bundled out of the nightclub.Graff, who had a small role in Luc Besson's 1997 film The Fifth Element, denied the Post report in her lawsuit.
