Vodafone, Nokia or Apple: which mobile is music to your ears?

October 9, 2008 |13:47 | Music  By : Team X

Vodafone's service lets users download an unlimited number of tracks from a library of more than a million songs for £1.99 per week, over the mobile phone network - and newcomers to the service can try it free for a week.

If a MusicStation user upgrades their phone, all the songs they've downloaded will be transferred to their new handset. If you purchase one of Nokia's Comes with Music handsets, you'll also receive a year's worth of music downloads, completely free of charge.

Nokia will offer millions of songs from all the major record labels through its Music Store, and users will be able to keep any downloaded tracks forever, even if they decide not to renew their contract. Mobile phone giant Nokia today launches a free, unlimited song download service that, it hopes, will mean users ditch their iPods and listen to music directly through their phones.

Jordin Sparks Fires Back at MTV Video Music Awards Host Over Purity Rings

September 9, 2008 |15:22 | Music  By : Team X

The British Brand  who is a celebrity in the U.K. but not well known in the U.S.  made a series of jokes centered on the Jonas Brothers and their rings. Do You Know (2008)

September 8, 2008 |11:25 | Music  By : Team X

Do You Know (2008)Jessica Simpson cutting a country album falls fairly low on the surprise scale, especially given the still-mooing cash cow of modern Nashville. It's also no shock to anyone who's even casually followed her nine-year career that the girl can sing.

But while it's nice to hear her pipes free of breathless pop production, it's a shame she ran with such bland, emotionally self-indulgent material for this crossover Do You Know. And though teaming up with frequent Carrie Underwood songwriter Hillary Lindsey for five tracks was a savvy move, we already have a Carrie Underwood, honey...and she probably turned these songs down.

A most energetic 'Fela!'

September 5, 2008 |15:41 | Music  By : Team X

A stormy mix of catchy Afrobeat music, convulsive dancing and tragic bio-drama, "Fela!" is an unorthodox off-Broadway musical conjuring up the life and times of Nigerian songwriter and political activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

Old-school viewers should be aware that in terms of Broadway-style construction and tone, the musical that premiered Thursday at 37 Arts makes the late, lamented "Passing Strange" seem like "My Fair Lady."

Music and video games share a special link

September 4, 2008 |16:01 | Music  By : Team X

With thousands of fans playing it daily, "Guitar Hero" is one of the most iconic names in the gaming world right now. Rhythm games (as the genre is known) like "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" allow fans to play along with their favorite popular songs. Even those who have never picked up an instrument before can begin making music.

But what impact have these games really had on the music industry? Obviously, the rhythm genre of games wouldn't exist without music. Developers can change the game-play and the target audience by including songs by different artists. However, the games themselves change the music industry in a much more significant way.

Often, the bands that sign on to games are lesser-known and get great publicity from having their songs featured in a widely played video game. They don't just get listeners--they get people to actually experience their songs over and over. Even if the players don't like it, they know the name and sound.

The Verve - Love Is Noise Single Review

August 30, 2008 |15:35 | Music  By : Team X

The comeback trail for Wigan's finest is almost complete as The Verve are set to release their new Single 'Love Is Noise'. After completing their tour and doing every festival possible, the band somehow found time to record an album together which is imaginatively named 'Fourth'

Looking back at The Thaw sessions, it seemed as if the guys had reclaimed their youth and were back in the mind set of when they released 'A Storm In Heaven' and 'A Northern Soul' leaving the majority of The Verve faithful wanting more and waiting in anticipation for the new material to make it's way into record stores. 'Love Is Noise' is the first "real" release since 'Sonnet' and really it has to be said that this tune is a bit of mixed bag really.

ROCK THE MILL: LOUD BUT RESPECTFUL

August 7, 2008 |16:08 | Music  By : Team X

As the saying goes, if it's too loud, you're too old. Or maybe you just live too close to an outdoor concert venue, as some rattled Cambridge residents discovered one noisy day last summer.

But if all goes according to plan, this year's Rock the Mill festival won't be too loud for anyone --whether they're old, neighbouring or both.Organizers of the free outdoor festival are hoping there will be no complaints -- or a lot fewer complaints than last year, anyway -- about the volume of the music being performed in Dickson Park on Saturday, Aug. 9.
