Country music is alive and doing quite well

November 18, 2009 |13:45 | Music  By : Team X

Carole Barnes, who wrote Sunday’s three-star letter, thinks that country music is dying or near death as Taylor Swift won Entertainer of the Year (“Country music’s obit is ready to be written”). She longs for the voices of Patsy Cline, Don Williams and George Jones. Well, I suggest she go and buy some old CDs and listen her heart out. Of course, country music has changed. So has pop and rock, as well as television, movies and magazines.

Many long for the good old days, but that won’t make them return. I enjoyed the CMAs more than usual this year. It was fun and full of talent. Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood are great hosts and deserve all the recognition they have received.  Taylor Swift entertained like crazy all year long, and writes her own music. It was/is her year.

This is It. This is Michael Jackson

November 3, 2009 |16:28 | Music  By : Team X

This is It. This is Michael JacksonWhen the credits began to roll for 'This is It", the cinema audience around me broke into warm applause. I was surprised but not shocked.

If you hope 'This Is It' will be a full-length music video - it is not. If you expect a documentary - this is not it, as well.

‘This is It’ is simply, a tasteful look at the person who was Michael Jackson. While this movie will no doubt cement Jackson’s appeal to die-hard fans.

It also sets in motion some re-thinking on the part of those who only saw the late 50-year-old in the light of 'Wacko Jacko' with songs that were as memorable as his wardrobe and off-stage anctics.

Lady Gaga says she'll tour without Kanye WestLady Gaga isn't letting her ill-fated tour with Kanye West keep her from her fans. A day after her joint tour with the rapper was canceled, the pop star said she'll be hitting the road solo.

"Kanye and I talked about it. We talked about it a lot, as well as with Live Nation," she added. West and Lady Gaga's tour, titled "Fame Kills," was supposed to kick off Nov. 10 in Phoenix.

U2 Upset About Their Last AlbumMany fans weren't too sure about the direction U2 was headed earlier this year and now the band seem to think they might have made a mistake with their latest release.

According to Spinner, Bono and his bandmates admitted they are disappointed by the success of their 2009 release No Line On The Horizon. Despite debuting number one in the UK in March and having sold 1 million copies, the record has been the group's biggest bust. Not only has it been their lowest-selling album in more than a decade, but the singles they have released haven't fared well on the charts either.

MUSIC AND DANCE SHAKES FLAT Karen George, who lives above the singer, says her life is being made a misery and has filed a lawsuit. The 51-year-old Material Girl, who often preaches about world peace during her concerts, has been threatened with eviction.

The suit says Madonna and her guests repeatedly dance and train to unreasonably high- decibel, amplified music, causing “noise and vibration to pour through the walls, ceilings and radiators”.

It adds: “Ms George has been forced to endure blaring music, stomping and shaking walls for approximately one and a half to three hours each day.”

The suit, which was filed at Manhattan Supreme Court in New York, also says the building’s management board has threatened to evict the superstar if she does not quieten down.

Madonna justifies this purchase

October 6, 2009 |16:52 | Gossips | Music  By : Team X

Madonna justifies this purchaseMadonna's last greatest-hits collection was released in 2001, and eight years later she releases " Celebration," a two-CD collection of 36 diverse pop songs from throughout her career and a sold-separately DVD collection of 47 videos.

The digitally remastered music and videos look great and remind you of how much sexy fun she shared with us as she revolutionized our world every bit as much as Michael Jackson.

But while the music CD includes songs such as "Who's That Boy" that were ignored in "The Immaculate Collection," it leaves off .

"Evita" tracks (one of which was released on her second greatest-hits CD) and other songs such as "I'll Remember," "The Power of Goodbye" and "This Used to Be My Playground," which would make this the ultimate set.

Kimberly Wyatt not friends with Nicole

October 1, 2009 |17:40 | Music  By : Team X

Kimberly Wyatt not friends with NicoleKimberly Wyatt isn't friends with Nicole Scherzinger. The Pussycat Dolls star has admitted she isn't really close with the sexy group's main singer and says they only speak because they work together. She told Britain's Daily Star newspaper:

"I get on well with most of the band but not everyone. Look, at the end of the day it's a job - we all have our own lives to lead and our own projects going on. "I think of Nicole as just a business associate not as a friend. You cannot simply group girls together and just expect them to get on, can you? Life doesn't work like that."
