Ashwariya Turns Down Will Smith For The 3erd Time

April 16, 2008 |21:24 | Personal Stories  By : Kaneta Babar

So the inside story is that Hollywood actor Will Smith is not getting the message sent across by Indian Actress Ashwariya Rai Bachan that “Ab main shaadi shuda hoon na so leave me alone baba”. Aishwarya Rai has declined to co-star with Hollywood wonder-boy Will Smith again. This is the third time she has turned down his offer. "That's true," she laughed. "I had to say no to Will for 'Tonight He Comes'. I feel awful about it, but I've my priorities very straight. Yes, family always comes first," Aishwarya told IANS. Two years ago the "Men in Black" star offered Aishwarya the comedy "Hitch", remade into Hindi with Salman Khan and Govinda as "Partner". She couldn't do the film due to time constraints. In quick succession, Aishwarya has turned down two Will Smith projects. Contrary to reports, Aishwarya, who tied the knot with Abhishek Bachchan last year, didn't decline another Smith's "The Seven Pounds" to celebrate Karwa Chauth with her husband in Mumbai. "That's what they wrote in the US press... that I preferred to return to Mumbai to 'starve' myself for a religious occasion than to meet Smith for the film. That's completely incorrect. "The script reading for 'The Seven Pounds' was just after Diwali when Dadimaa (Teji Bachchan)'s health dipped drastically. So I didn't make that trip out to LA for the reading session with Will. Is that wrong? Not to me. I'd any day put family over career."

So are Ash and Smith star crossed?

"When it has to happen it will happen. We'd love to work together. There's something very charismatic about that actor. He gives off very nice vibes. "He's very adventurous as an actor. He does 'I Am Legend' and 'Pursuit Of Happyness' at the same time. He's an actor, rapper, and a great family man. He likes to be adventurous. I like that."

Sarkozy's wife hailed as France's Princess Diana

March 27, 2008 |16:40 | Activities | Gossips | Personal Stories | Politics  By : Team X

The day after splashing pictures of her naked, Britain's tabloids hailed Carla Bruni as a fashion queen who could be the new Princess Diana.

"What a difference a day makes ... and this time she remembered to put some clothes on," trumpeted The Daily Mail, which devoted a six-page spread to France's First Lady.

"Britain is enchanted by Madame Sarkozy," said the Daily Express opposite a picture of the former catwalk star turned singer arriving for a state banquet at Windsor Castle.

Tabloids had welcomed Carla at the start of a state visit with her husband, President Nicolas Sarkozy, on Wednesday by reproducing a nude fashion shot of her taken in the 90s. Bookmakers William Hill quoted odds of 10-1 that Sarkozy would buy the print when it was auctioned next month in New York.

Any moralistic tut-tutting by the popular press was replaced on Thursday by praise for a woman hailed as a demure model of elegance.

"A Good Night for France. The Gaul Scorers," declared The Sun in a front-page spread linking Carla's triumph with France's soccer defeat of England in Paris.

Aspirants have understood that dance training institutes and troupes open the door to the film industry," Rajesh Mansukhani, spokesperson for Shiamak Davar, told IANS."With Bollywood dreams, a lot of youngsters join dance groups. Over 100 new entrants join our courses every year," said Mansukhani. Lobo is a well-known dance master who has choreographed songs for the upcoming film "U, Me Aur Hum", blockbuster "Jab We Met" and "Dhoom", to name a few. "The increased media exposure and increased number of TV channels have stimulated the aspirations of youngsters, especially those belonging to small towns. They want to be dancers to get a break in movies." Besides Shahid and Darsheel, others whose dancing shoes helped them enter the silver screen include Pearl Barsiwala, Isha Sherwani, Ruslan Mumtaz and Mumait Khan who featured in the 'Seekh Le...' song of "Munnabhai MBBS". Pearl played the role of Sarika's daughter (Dilshad) in the critically acclaimed film "Parzania". "These days, youngsters are very keen to pursue dancing as their profession. It is no longer tagged as a hobby," she added. If one opts to become a faculty member, then the remuneration ranges between Rs.50,000 and Rs.80,000 per month.

India suspends warrant against Gere

March 14, 2008 |16:30 | Gossips | Personal Stories | Showbiz  By : Team X

India's top court suspended an arrest warrant Friday against Hollywood star Richard Gere, wanted for allegedly breaking public obscenity laws by kissing Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty at a public AIDS awareness event last year, an attorney said.

"Gere is allowed to come and leave. He can't be arrested," said Anil Grover, attorney for Shetty, after attending the Supreme Court proceedings.

Chief Justice K. G. Balakrishnan and Justice R. V. Raveendran indefinitely stayed the arrest warrant issued against Gere last year by a court in the northwestern Indian city of Jaipur, Grover told The Associated Press.

Gere embraced and kissed Shetty on her cheek at the public AIDS awareness event in New Delhi on April 15 last year, prompting Hindu hard-liners to allege the pair had offended the sensibilities of India's traditionally conservative culture.

Hindu activists filed three cases against the pair last year, including one in Jaipur.

Ex-model Waris Dirie found in Brussels

March 8, 2008 |17:42 | Activities | Gossips | Life of Dreams | Movies | Out and About | Personal Stories | Showbiz  By : Team X

Police on Friday found Waris Dirie, three days after the Somali-born model who launched a worldwide campaign against female genital mutilation had vanished.

Dirie, 43, appeared to be in good health and was being questioned by police about the disappearance, said Estelle Arpigny, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office.

She declined to give further details, saying it was unclear what had happened since Dirie vanished early Wednesday. Belgian media reports said police found her Friday afternoon walking the Brussels' Grand Place square.

Hours earlier, police had announced they were launching a nationwide search for the former model, who had last been seen getting into a cab after a mix-up over a hotel.

Dirie gained international fame as a model posing in Chanel ads and acting in the 1987 James Bond movie "The Living Daylights" before launching her campaign against female genital mutilation in 1996.

She shocked the world with a best-selling book "Desert Flower" that described how her genitals were sliced off with a dirty razor blade without anesthesia, and then stitched together.

Now a U.N. goodwill ambassador, she was due to speak on genital mutilation in Brussels at two conferences on women's rights organized by the European Union, including one on Thursday attended by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

News of Dirie's disappearance came a week after French police said they had found the body of another former model of African origin who had campaigned against female genital mutilation. Guinean-born Katoucha Niane was discovered floating in the River Seine in Paris.

January 21, 2008 |19:22 | Personal Stories  By : Kaneta Babar

To come to think of it what is after all sooooooooooooo special about Ashwariya that is making her co-stars or wish to be co-star is going crazy to work with this lady after all can anyone answer this question of mine ?  John Abraham is quite keen on working with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for Sriram Raghavan’s next movie. The movie was supposed to hit the floors on December last year; however, due to some unavoidable circumstances the shoot has been postponed. Aishwarya has not yet given a green signal, as she still wants to read the script again before starting the shoot. John and Aishwarya were also supposed to star in Gaurang Doshi’s Happy Birthday, which for some reasons did not take off. While John seems to be waiting eagerly to start shooting, Ex- Miss World hasn’t yet given it a nod. Hope John’s dream of working with Ash comes true.
