Swedish celebrity-show to be filmed in Malaysia

TV4 Sweden has commissioned its own version of the American hit-show ‘I’m a   elebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ The programme features ten celebrities who swap their lavish lifestyles for the challenge of surviving in the world's most inhospitable climate. The programme will be filmed on location in Malaysia’s Taman Negara rainforest, infamous for its tropical wildlife and reputed to be the oldest jungle in the world.
According to worldscreen.com Fredrik Arefalk, who the head of commissioning at TV4 in Sweden, is thilled about the prospects of the show. “This series will be our biggest and most exciting commission to date. I’m confident it will be 2009’s most exciting and talked about TV series, replicating the success the show already achieves in the U.K.” he says.

Anna Carrfors Bråckenhielm, the CEO at Silverback Productions, doesn’t think that that this is the last time the Malaysian location will be used for filming the programme “We’re confident the Silverback site location in Malaysia will become the home of many more international ‘I’m a Celebrity’ productions”, she says.

The-Premiere-Of-Irvins-TV-SAnother year for the Cowboys, another reality show, and just like Hard Knocks, DallasCowboys.com is here with more knee-jerk thoughts following the first episode of Michael Irvin's 4th and Long, the series debuting Monday night on Spike TV.

The theme to the show is simple: There are six defensive backs and six wide receivers, and by the end of the series, one guy will be selected to fill the 80th spot on the Cowboys' 80-man roster heading to training camp in San Antonio the final week of July.

But along the way we'll get to know these real-life football players, hoping the Turk will not come fetch them, as the players are eliminated from the competition with each show.  So let's get started with some initial impressions of the premier showing of this series.

Popular TV show 'Fringe' to relocated from New York City to Vancouver

Popular TV show Fringe to relocated from New York City to VancouverIt's no mystery why the paranormal television show "Fringe" will be disappearing from New York. The popular Fox hit series, which originally relocated to New York from Toronto, is heading back to Canada, this time to Vancouver.

"Fringe" had moved to Long Island City's Silvercup Studios to take advantage of New York's popular film and television tax incentives, but the state program has run out of money, Variety is reporting.

The $515 million set aside to expand tax breaks and extend the program to 2013 was gone by the beginning of 2009 and there are currently no plans to reinvest, the industry trade reported.

"'Fringe''s move to Vancouver is disappointing, but New York City - the only city in the United States with a film tax credit - remains a highly attractive place to film," said Katherine Oliver, commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting in a statement to the News.

Race on TV: Why are reality shows more diverse than scripted series?

February 18, 2009 |14:26 | Favorite TV Shows  By : Team X

Race on TV Why are reality shows more diverse than scripted seriesToday about how network reality shows are doing a better job of representing minorities on TV than scripted prime-time series. I agree. From the current seasons of CBS' The Amazing Race and NBC's The Biggest Loser to ABC's Dancing With the Stars and Fox's Hell's Kitchen.

It seems the producers of those shows have finally figured out what the creators MTV's The Real World have known for years -- adding people of color to the mix not only helps fuel conflict and drama, but it also pulls in a wider range of viewers.

So why are scripted shows slow to do the same? It's hard to say. Last June, my colleague Jennifer Armstrong and I explored this issue in a story we cowrote for EW called "Diversity in Entertainment: Why Is TV So White?" That same month, the NAACP released a study titled "Out of Focus, Out of Sync -- Take 4," calling for diversity both on screen and behind the scenes.

Hey Noob, Pure Pwnage Is The Best Show Evar

January 9, 2009 |16:28 | Favorite TV Shows  By : Team X

If you know how to pronounce the show’s name, chances are you’re already a fan, or you will be soon. If you don’t, it - as well as the rest of the show - is probably going to go right over your head.

Pure Pwnage focuses on the life and times of Canadian professional video gamer Jeremy, better known as his online alias “teh_pwnerer” (played by Jarett Cale) and his roommate/brother Kyle (Geoff Lapaire, also the director).

In the early episodes, the show starts out as a mockumentary for Kyle’s film class; as Jeremy has been playing video games (and doing little else) since he was two years old, Kyle gets plenty of revealing looks into his life simply by following him around.

Wendy Williams is 'a fake and a phony'

July 23, 2008 |16:58 | Favorite TV Shows  By : Team X

Omarosa is not sorry for sparring with Wendy Williams. "I stand by everything I said," Omarosa told The Associated Press on Tuesday. The reality star _ whose full name is Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth _ appeared Monday on "The Wendy Williams Show" to promote her upcoming book but instead spent more time trading insults with radio personality-turned-talk show host Wendy Williams, who infamously engaged Whitney Houston during an interview on her radio show in 2003.

"When you're not honest with the American people, they do not respond well to you," said Omarosa, who became famous after appearing on the first season of NBC's "The Apprentice." "She should just go ask Star Jones about that. Honesty needs to be there. She's a phony. As long as she continues to be a fake and a phony, she won't be successful."

MTV is my bread, movies my butter: Rannvijay

May 15, 2008 |18:10 | Favorite TV Shows | Gossips | Movies | Showbiz  By : Team X

Rannvijay Singh Sangha is best known as the suave host of MTV's popular reality show Roadies, but now the VJ has ventured into films with Toss.

However, this popular VJ says he won't cut down on veejaying.

"Now that I will be in movies, they will earn me my butter. But MTV would always remain my bread," Rannvijay said.

Rannvijay rose to popularity after he won the first season of MTV's hit reality show Roadies. Later, he got an opportunity to host the subsequent instalments of the show, which is now in its fifth season.

He gives the entire credit for his success and fame to Roadies, saying: "When I was a participant, the show gave me a platform through which people started knowing me. When I started hosting the show, people started coming for autographs and today if people recognise me in the industry, it is all thanks to Roadies."

In the film Toss, he plays the role of Ryan, a firm believer in God.

"For the role, the filmmakers wanted a charming and good-looking boy. I don't know to what extent I fulfil those criteria, but I really like the role," he said.

Apart from Toss, the VJ-turned-actor, who had earlier planned to join the armed forces, would also be seen in Mumbai Cutting... A City Unfolds.

For the film, 11 prominent Indian directors Sudhir Mishra, Anurag Kashyap, Rahul Dholakia, Ruchi Narain, Kundan Shah, Revathy, Shashank Ghosh, Jahnu Barua, Manish Jha, Rituparno Ghosh and Ayush Raina were assigned to make 10-minute shorts about Mumbai.

Which Idol Will Fall First?

If this was the best top 24 ever, then it stands to reason that this is the best top 12 ever. I may be drinking the kool-aid because, to my eyes, this top 12 looks as strong, top to bottom, as I’ve seen. David, is this the best top 12 ever?

It definitely has some strong competitors, but I never like to talk about the strongest group ever – or really anything as an overall group. There are some contestants who are super-strong, and others who aren’t. I think the winner may already be obvious, but we know that what appears obvious now won’t be as apparent in a couple months. So we’ll just take it a week at a time. (As always, when David is speaking, it’s in boldface.)

Last week, we said goodbye to Luke Menard and Kady Malloy. A surprise to no one – not even them, based on the looks on their faces.

Indeed, we both picked Luke to go before their performances, and I picked Kady as well.
